Martin Pierce | Katydom
In 2019 my family moved to MidCity into Martin & Anne Pierce’s live/work studio bldg. I got to see Martin at work in his studio space & grabbed my camera to start documenting his artistic process. As I learned more about the larger than life insect sculptures & Katydom I created a documentary style short film to share that story that is currently on the film festival circuit.
Martin Pierce Bio
Martin was born in Worcester, England where he was trained as a wood carver, he moved south to Lewes where he was able to begin his life as a sculptor. With his wife Anne the couple moved to Los Angeles where they began making and selling Martin’s furniture and later hardware pieces. The journey into bronze casting and Martin’s creative sculpting allowed him to return to his boyhood love of insects. With Anne as creative writer, this journey has continued and we now are able to see the wonders of these sculpted life forms in the fantasy world of Katydom.
